What to know about the Tampa Bay Lightning

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens betting odds for Tampa Bay: -152

The stars are seemingly aligning for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who could pull off the first sweep of a Stanley Cup Final series since the Detroit Red Wings did so way back in 1998. Their resounding 6-3 victory in Game 3 over the Montreal Canadiens certainly reinforces the belief that the sweep could indeed happen this Monday night for Game 4.

The Lightning have thoroughly outscored the Canadiens in the series, 14-5, and have not trailed at any moment in the first three games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. On Game 3 Saturday, it was Tyler Johnson who delivered a hefty punch for his side with two goals. Nikita Kucherov also scored and helped out with another to give him eight goals and 32 points this postseason.

What Tampa Bay has got to be careful with is being complacent on defense. Even though Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 32 saves in Game 3, those are still one too many scoring opportunities that the team has allowed to the Canadiens, who are still playing very resilient hockey.

What to know about the Montreal Canadiens

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens betting odds for Montreal: +129

On one hand, the Montreal Canadiens’ offense broke out of its back-to-back one-goal efforts from Games 1 and 2 of the series by scoring three goals in Saturday’s clash. On the other hand, allowing six goals to Tampa Bay is still as bad as it sounds.

The Habs got goals out of veteran Corey Perry and young star Nick Suzuki in Game 3, as well as another from unheralded center Phillip Danault. While getting more players involved on offense is a positive sign, there isn’t much to be desired about the team’s support for its star goalie on defense, as Carey Price stopped just 25 of Tampa Bay’s 30 shots on goal.

If there’s a silver lining to the Habs’ dire situation right now it’s that they’ve already proven earlier this postseason that they can rally in a series like no other. The Canadiens clawed out of a 3-1 series hole against the Maple Leafs in the second round, and there’s no telling what they’re capable of in another must-win elimination game this Monday night in front of their home fans.

What’s your Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens Game 4 prediction?

It’s really hard to deny that the Lightning are very well poised to complete the Stanley Cup Final sweep of the Canadiens this Monday night. However, one can’t underestimate the Habs’ immense comeback potential this postseason, especially with Game 4 still being played in Quebec. One could even argue that the Bolts may do Montreal a solid and play less competitively on Monday night in hopes of clinching the title in Game 5 at Tampa instead.
