The Favorites and Sleepers to Win the 2019-20 NHL Season
Months after the St. Louis Blues hoisted the Lord Stanley Cup, it’s time for another NHL season. Will the Blues win it all again? Or will any of the teams Nitrogen Sports Blog have discussed below be able to have a Stanley Cup parade of their own next June? Here are the NHL 2020 favorites to top all competition.
Favorites to win the 2019-20 NHL Stanley Cup Finals
There aren’t a lot of surprises here. The NHL 2020 favorites to win the Stanley Cup are the same teams that made waves a season ago, including the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Boston Bruins (+1050)
The Boston Bruins will head into 2019-2020 season as among the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The Bruins fell one game short in their almost storybook 2018-19 season to become Stanley Cup champions.. The Black and Gold will look to continue their winning ways in the upcoming season.
The mental makeup of the roster looks great but the overall system has issues with depth on the wings. While they have plenty of talents coming up in the minor leagues, these do not seem to be NHL ready yet.
Toronto Maple Leafs (+900)
Not many teams can complain about reaching the 100-point mark in a regular season. But the expectations from Bay Street Bullies have been high and the same seems to be this year. Interestingly, they are placed ahead of the Boston Bruins on the oddsboard, even though Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs twice in a row in the playoffs.
With the latest signing of Mitch Marner for a six-year contract, the Leafs have locked a terrific player to help Auston Matthews prove that Toronto is worthy of being labeled as a Stanley Cup favorite in 2020.
NHL 2020 Sleepers
While the odds will vary all season, few teams have made great moves to improve their chances. The two NHL 2020 sleepers who appears to be in great form and that we consider as strong contenders to win the Stanley Cup are the Dallas Stars and New Jersey Devils.
Dallas Stars (+1700)
The Stars have been great at the back end last season. Boasting of the tandem of Ben Bishop and Anton Khodubin, Dallas put up a .923 save percentage, which was only topped by one tea — the New York Islanders — last season. The Stars even added more strength to their defense by acquiring defenseman Andrej Sekera in the team, the blue line seems to be impenetrable.
Meanwhile, on the offense, the addition of Joe Pavelski and Corey Perry to the roaster seems to get the job done. The odds to win the Stanley Cup continue to shorten after the latest additions.
New Jersey Devils (+2600)
The last decade has been mostly unpromising for Jersey’s team. While the team bottomed last season, they look to turn things around with a positive offseason. The odds are slowly climbing higher for the team with the entry of sensational Jack Hughes.
New Jersey Devils suffered due to their weak blue-line. To make a turnaround, the franchise made some splashes in free agency and locked veteran blue-liner PK Subban.
Many other teams are also expected to do well including last year champions St.Louis Blues and the Vegas Golden Knights. The odds will fluctuate all season and only time will tell who will lift the Stanley Cup.
