WATCH: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and TE Jimmy Graham Hook Up For First Touchdown of 2019 NFL Season
It’s 2019, and Green Bay Packers Jimmy Graham still matters. Anyone who has said otherwise ahead of the season will just have to chew the sweet touchdown pass he caught from Aaron Rodgers in the second quarter of the kick-off game at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears.
The Packers ended the first quarter scoreless, as they had a hard time getting anything going on offense against Khalil Mack and the Bears’ pass rush and aggressive secondary. But Rodgers is Rodgers, and at least on this play, he was able to find the right man at the right time despite the pressure in the pocket he was facing. The touchdown strike to Graham also put the Packers ahead, 7-3, after trailing the Bears on Eddy Pineiro’s field goal in the opening period.
Graham is in the second year of his stint in Green Bay. While he no longer is among the elite tight ends in the league, he remains a threat in the Packers’ passing game. The 32-year-old Miami product is signed with the Packers until the end of the 2020 season. He had 636 receiving yards and two receiving scores in 16 games in 2018.
