WATCH: Bears K Eddy Pineiro Scores First Points of the 2019 NFL Season Against Packers
The Green Bay Packers entered 2019 NFL season with high hopes on their offense. They still have Aaron Rodgers under center and a new head coach in the offensive-minded Matt LaFleur. But so far, they couldn’t break through the Chicago Bears’ defense in the kick-off game at Soldier Field, where they have been held scoreless in the first quarter. It’s the Bears who actually struck first, thanks to new kicker Eddy Pineiro, who drilled the first points of the 100th NFL season with a field goal from 38 yards out.
Pineiro is the Bears’ replacement for Cody Parkey, whose “double-doink” in last season’s NFC Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles cost his job — whether the Bears admit it or not.
The pressure is high on Pineiro to deliver entering the season, given the thinning patience of Bears fans on kickers, but he seems to be unrattled by these expectations based on his first try for Chicago.
Pineiro is earning $495,000 this season. Not bad for an undrafted kicker in 2018 out of Florida.
