Top NFC Teams Heading Into The 2019 NFL Season

August 1, 2019 | Football Sports NFL NFC 2019 Preview

The Los Angeles Rams had the second-best scoring offense in the NFL in 2018, but the team manifested none of that offensive prowess in Super Bowl 53, when they got stopped by the New England Patriots. That bitter loss and putrid performance in the Super Bowl are where the Rams will get their motivation to win not only the NFC but Super Bowl 54 as well.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints can’t wait to get back on the field to try and claim what they truly felt was theirs, which is the NFC crown that the Rams currently holds. The Rams and the Saints are the top two NFC teams this 2019, but the Chicago Bears have a lot to say about that.

Nitrogen Sports Blog discusses the Rams, Saints, and the Bears below.

2019 NFC Title Favorites: Rams are poised to continue their reign

    Los Angeles Rams (+350)

The Rams had Super Bowl aspirations in 2018. However, they came up short of their goal when they lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 53. But with offensive guru Sean McVay leading an explosive roster there is no reason the Rams won’t be competing for the top spot again.

Even though Todd Gurley’s health is a question mark, the Rams still have enough firepower to give defenses fits. Meanwhile, quarterback Jared Goff has all the tools to take advantage of that depth.

An improved defense could put the Rams over the edge. Aaron Donald is the anchor and one of the best players in the NFL. The addition of the hard hitting Pro Bowler, Eric Weddle will provide extra punch for the Rams’ stop unit.

All things considered, the Rams are widely considered as the best among all top NFC teams heading into the 2019 NFL season.

    New Orleans Saints (+400)

Last year the Saints’ season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion when a missed pass interference call kept them from reaching the Super Bowl. But the Saints are stacked with talent and are destined to make another run.

Versatile and explosive players like Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas (on holdout, as of this writing), and Ted Ginn Jr. give them big play abilities that few teams can boast.

If you’re looking for the single best reason why the Saints are viewed as one of the top NFC teams in the 2019 NFL season, you don’t have to go beyond the backfield to find him.

The Saints will go as far as where Drew Brees take them. Last season, Brees passed for 3,992 yards and 32 touchdowns against only five interceptions.

The Saints’ defense is a strength as well, particularly against the run, as they held opponents down to just 80.2 rushing yards per contest back in 2018.

The Saints are well-rounded, with stars on the line and in the backfield. And the continuing development of their outstanding 2017 draft class should make the Saints’ D even stronger.

Safety Marcus Williams and linebacker Alex Anzalone are a couple of key players that are coming into their prime and could put the team over the top.

    Chicago Bears (+750)

The Bears defense smothered opponents in 2018. After adding Khalil Mack, the Bears instantly transformed into a defensive juggernaut. Chicago opponents had to bleed for points last season, as they averaged just 17.7 points per contest, the fewest in the entire league.

The Bears racked up 36 takeaways, the most by any team in the last five years. Offensively, the Bears are trending nicely as well. Tarik Cohen, and Jordan Howard make the perfect pair at the running back position. And Anthony Miller could be a breakout candidate for Chicago at WR.

Most importantly, Mitchell Trubisky took a big step forward for the Bears last year and earned a spot on the NFC Pro Bowl squad. The buzz from Bears camp is that the third-year QB now has a veteran’s understanding of the playbook.

The NFC sent the Los Angeles Rams to Super Bowl 53. Hopes were high that the Rams will be able to get Tinseltown partying with the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but Tom Brady and company spoiled any plans for that.

The Rams are once again the favorites to represent their conference in the grandest stage of football.Other top NFC teams this 2019 are coming for the Rams’ conference crown, though, and it’s never an easy task to defend it.
