The Vols were able to come away with their first conference win of the 2019 season in Week 7. Tennessee defeated Mississippi State, 20-10, but it came at a cost. Sophomore safety Trevon Flowers suffered a broken leg while returning an interception. And quarterback Brian Maurer was checked for a concussion.

Maurer was hurt after being knocked off his feet by Mississippi State safety CJ Morgan. Backup QB Jarrett Guarantano was forced to step up for relief duties. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt said the freshman QB will be fine, but didn’t clarify whether or not he’d be available vs Alabama.

Alabama fell behind early in their Week 7 matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies, but finished strong for another lopsided win, 47-28. As usual, Tua Tagovailoa led the Crimson Tide offense. He spread the ball to seven receivers on his way to a 4 touchdown day. Alabama moved the ball efficiently when it mattered most.

The Crimson Tide converted 8 of 13 attempts on 3rd down for a season high of 61.5 percent. DeVonta Smith will be suspended for the first half of Alabama’s week 8 contest. Head Coach Nick Saban attributes the suspension to Smith’s Week 7 ejection.
