What to know about the Kansas City Chiefs
Super Bowl 55 Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers betting odds for Kansas City: -3.5
After one close victory after another, the Kansas City Chiefs finally displayed the immense power they’ve stored all along during their 38-24 win over the Buffalo Bills in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.
The Chiefs found themselves in an early nine-point hole in the first quarter, only to rattle off a 38-6 run between then and the third quarter to prevent any Buffalo comeback from happening. Defending Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes was simply phenomenal, going 29-of-38 for 325 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Mahomes found his two favorite targets so often that both Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill set new franchise marks on Sunday. Kelce’s 13 catches (for 118 yards and two TDs) is a new Kansas City record for a single postseason game, and so is Tyreek Hill’s 172 receiving yards from his nine grabs.
KC is now set for a rematch against Tampa Bay, with the former emerging victorious over the latter in Week 12, 27-24. However, considering the recent offensive explosion against the Bills, chances are high that the Chiefs will put up more than 27 points in the second meeting with everything on the line.
What to know about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Super Bowl 55 Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers betting odds for Tampa Bay: +3.5
A familiar face in a new garb is back in the Super Bowl, as Tom Brady makes his 10th-career appearance in the season finale after he and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Green Bay Packers at Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, 31-26.
Brady – no stranger to title-winning success – orchestrated Tampa Bay’s offense well enough for the victory, throwing for 280 passing yards and three scores. However, he did also get picked off thrice. Instead, the Bucs defense aided the six-time SB champ on the opposite side of the ball, sacking Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers five times and limiting the Packers to just 5.9 passing yards per play.
The Buccaneers were far from perfect despite the valiant victory, and the Chiefs’ offense might seem too much for their D to handle. On the bright side, they have the benefit of a literal home-field advantage, as they’re the first team in Super Bowl history to play on their home turf in the actual title game.
