What to know when betting on the Houston Roughnecks

Roughnecks vs. Vipers XFL 3 moneyline odds for Houston: -222
The Roughnecks have zoomed to a 2-0 start to the season, as they’ve followed up their 37-17 win over the LA Wildcats in Week 1 with a 28-24 victory at home over the St. Louis Battlehawks last Sunday. P.J. Walker, who won the quarterback competition in Houston over former Oakland Raiders quarterback Connor Cook, went 20 for 31 for 170 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Walker has seemingly grown comfortable as the lead director on the field of Houston’s offense that’s been scoring an average of 32.5 points per game.

Walker now has seven touchdowns and just an interception in two games. He is also third in the XFL with 442 passing yards. It’s one thing to deal with Houston’s blistering offense, and it’s another to combat its defense that’s been frequently putting opposing QBs on their back. Houston has eight sacks through two games.

What to know when betting on the Tampa Bay Vipers

Roughnecks vs. Vipers XFL 3 moneyline odds for Tampa Bay: +194
The Vipers are still winless this season, and that’s mainly due to their lackadaisical offense that hasn’t found its groove yet. Tampa Bay coughed up a mere three points in their loss in Week 1 to the New York Guardians then generated just nine points in the loss to the Seattle Dragons last Saturday. The Vipers benched Week 1 starter, Aaron Murray, in Week 2 as expected but the pair of Taylor Cornelius and Quinton Flowers did not perform much better in the Guardians game, as the two combined for three picks and a grand total of zero touchdowns.

The Vipers’ run game showed more life, with Jacques Patrick rushing for 73 yard on 14 carries while De’Veon Smith had 46 yards on 11 rushing attempts. It’s not too late for the Vipers to right their ship, but it’s also not too early for them to try to utilize their running backs more, as their quarterbacks just couldn’t seem to deliver from the pocket.
