2019 NFL Odds: New England Patriots (-3.5) vs.Baltimore Ravens (+3.5)

What to know about the New England Patriots (8-0)

Well, what do you know, the Patriots are still undefeated through eight weeks of the season. Their latest victims were the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, punishing Baker Mayfield and company in a 27-13 victory in Foxboro. Still, the Pats’ defense remain nearly impenetrable.

New England forced three turnovers against the Browns, who can even consider themselves lucky for scoring in double digits. On the season, the Patriots are allowing just 7.6 points per game. That scoring defense is making life a whole lot easier for quarterback Tom Brady, who has 2,251 passing yards and 13 touchdowns against four interceptions.

What to know about the Baltimore Ravens (5-2)

The Ravens will have the fresher legs between them and New England this coming weekend, having taken a bye in Week 8. Prior to that, the Ravens clobbered the Seattle Seahawks on the road for a 30-16 victory, their third in a row. Lamar Jackson has been a problem this season, and stopping him is a top priority for New England’s merciless defense.

The Pats, however, haven’t faced a quarterback quite like Jackson, a dual-threat signal-caller who is spearheading the second-highest offense in the NFL. The Ravens are putting up 30.6 points per game while also compiling over 430 total yards per contest.

On the other end of the ball, the Ravens have seemingly gotten better, thanks in part to the arrival of cornerback Marcus Peters via a trade with the Los Angeles Rams. Peters had had scored a touchdown off of an interception in the Seahawks game.

    Fantasy Football spin

    • WR Mohamed Sanu was recently acquired by the Patriots through a trade with the Atlanta Falcons. Sanu is known in fantasy circles as a more useful real-life player than in fantasy. However, Sanu can make noise against the Ravens’ defense that will be more focused on stopping other New England downfield weapons. Sanu is rostered in just 62.8 percent of ESPN leagues.

    • Rookie wideout Miles Boykin led the Ravens with 55 receiving yards on just two targets against the Seahawks. The target volume isn’t sexy, but he could get an uptick in looks from Jackson with New England’s defense set on stopping other Ravens offensive pieces.

    Betting trends

    • The Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games.
    • The total has hit the UNDER in three of the Ravens’ last four home games.
