What to know about the Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions vs. Pittsburgh Steelers betting odds for Detroit: +5.5

Defense appears to still be the issue for the Detroit Lions, who lost to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 of the preseason, 16-15, after the Bills converted a game-winning field goal to take a one-point with 15 seconds left in the contest.

Detroit was neck-and-neck with Buffalo in the offensive yardage category when all was said and done (259-248), but it was the Lions’ defense that fell apart late in the game. Still, holding the Bills to just 4.2 yards per passing attempt and 3.9 yards per carry is a promising sign for the team’s defensive reserves.

What’s more concerning, however, is how newly acquired quarterback Jared Goff appeared in his first drive as a Lion. Goff took a sack and nearly threw a pick in his only drive of the game, yet still reeled off seven straight completions for 56 yards to cap off an 18-play drive that yielded a mere field goal.

What to know about the Pittsburgh Steelers

Detroit Lions vs. Pittsburgh Steelers betting odds for Pittsburgh: -5.5

There’s a lot to love about the Pittsburgh Steelers after their win in the City of Brotherly Love against the neighboring Philadelphia Eagles this past week.

Thanks to former Washington quarterback Dwayne Haskins, the Steelers improved to 2-0 this preseason with a 24-16 win over the Eagles. Haskins threw for 161 yards and a touchdown. The former first-round pick now has 215 passing yards with a 68.6 completion percentage following his decent outing from the Hall of Fame Game.

Pittsburgh’s defense also had a bounce-back effort after surrendering over 350 yards of offense to the Dallas Cowboys in the HOF Game. The Steelers limited Philly to just 277 total yards and 0-for-8 on third-down conversions, which should put them in high spirits and ready to take on a Lions offense that’s been less-than-stellar in the preseason opener.

What’s your Detroit Lions vs. Pittsburgh Steelers prediction?

All signs point to an easy win for the Steelers to remain unbeaten this preseason. Then again, the Lions weren’t totally blown out during their game against another true AFC playoff contender. This should still warrant some consideration from possible bettors that Detroit can cover the manageable spread as the road underdogs at the very least.
