What to know about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Houston Texans betting odds for Tampa Bay: TBA

Head coach Bruce Arians is not worried about his Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 0-2 record this preseason whatsoever. After all, the defending champions have the luxury of having their core starting roster simply healthy and intact for the regular season ahead.

In Week 2, Tampa Bay was demolished by the Tennessee Titans, 34-3, with the Bucs’ reserves committing three turnovers. Backup rookie quarterback Kyle Trask saw a ton of action but converted just half of his 26 passes for 131 yards and two interceptions. What’s worse is that the team generated just 17 yards on the ground for a paltry 1.1 yards-per-carry average during the loss.

Unless the Bucs decide to give their starters some playing time in Week 3, it seems as if they’ll be content with not playing for the win whatsoever. This gives their next opponent a great opportunity to end the preseason on a higher note. That brings us to…

What to know about the Houston Texans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Houston Texans betting odds for Houston: TBA

Although it’s only the preseason, the Houston Texans are putting up great fights with not much at stake. They improved to 2-0 following their Week 2 victory over the neighboring Dallas Cowboys, 20-14, with a couple of newcomers standing out.

Stanford quarterback Davis Mills, whom Houston selected in the third round of this year’s draft, had a terrific performance against the Cowboys, finishing with 115 yards on 10-of-16 passing. The team also got a boost out of veteran running back Mark Ingram, who had seven carries for 24 rushing yards and a touchdown.

In Week 1, the Texans manhandled the Packers to the tune of a 26-7 rout. Considering that the Bucs will likely opt to keep their starters at bay, Houston could very well go undefeated this preseason in games against probable playoff contenders in 2021. It’s the best that the troubled Lone Star State franchise could ask for before turning into the NFL’s resident doormat come the regular season.

What’s your Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Houston Texans prediction?

Even though the Buccaneers and Texans are headed in opposite directions in terms of wins this preseason, both teams are just middle-of-the-pack in the preseason over the past few years. That being said, though, the smart money should still be on the Texans to win Saturday’s contest, but only if the Bucs continue to not give any of their starters on offense significant playing time.
