AFC West 2019 Preview
The AFC West was home to two of football’s best teams in 2018. The Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs were neck and neck for the entire campaign. Both the Chargers and Chiefs went 12-4 in 2018. And this year, both squads are looking for the edge that will put them over the top.
Nitrogen Sports Blog dives into division in this AFC West preview for the 2019 season.
Can the Chiefs continue their success in the AFC West this 2019?
Kansas City Chiefs (-161)
Pat Mahomes burst onto the scene in a big way last season. He threw for 50 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards en route to winning the league’s Most Valuable Player award. What Mahomes did on the field last season might as well have served as the AFC West preview of what’s to come this 2019.

Although the Chiefs lost some key offensive contributors in Kareem Hunt and Spencer Ware, they have piece in place to fill the void. After some tough injuries, Damien Williams broke out for the Chiefs big time. He is ready to step up and turn in some big rushing totals for Kansas City.
Carlos Hyde also gives the Chiefs some playmaking ability from the running back position. And look for the talented wide receiver, Sammy Watkins to step up in the possible absence of suspended Tyreek Hill. Plus, the Chiefs have arguably the best tight end in the game in Travis Kelce.
Can the Chargers get over the hump in the AFC West this 2019?
Los Angeles Chargers (+177)
The Charges should not even be referred to as sleepers. They are more of “favorite number two” to the powerhouse Chiefs. With veteran quarterback Philip Rivers under center, there’s no reason to think the Chargers won’t be right there in stride with the Chiefs all year.
The Chargers have plenty of firepower to support their dependable Pro Bowl QB. After missing the 2018 season with an injury, Hunter Henry will slot right into the hole left by the legendary Antonio Gates. However, team chemistry could suffer if Melvin Gordon’s contract situation causes some drama.

Oakland Raiders (+1400)
This offseason was quite busy for the Raiders. Second-year head coach Jon Gruden did not exactly walk into an ideal situation. The Raiders were kind of a disaster. But Gruden has been working hard to turn the ship around.
A lot of familiar faces from the old regime have departed, and Antonio Brown is on board to give the team a much needed offensive jump start.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were an unstoppable offensive force in 2018. What’s scary about the Chiefs is that Mahomes has yet to hit the ceiling of his potential. In this AFC West preview for the 2019 season, however, we’ve mentioned the other teams which could give Kansas City a run for its money.
The Raiders are coming off a disastrous campaign, but with a receiver of Antonio Brown’s caliber, Oakland can see their passing attack blossom the way it did for the Chiefs in 2018.
