2019 NFL Parlay Week 14: Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots

Game of the Week 14 Mahomes

A rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game is on tap this Sunday, as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the reigning Super Bowl champions New England Patriots. The Patriots actually defeated Kansas City twice last season, including a matchup in the regular season.

The Chiefs could be catching New England at the right time now, though, as the Patriots are coming off a bad loss that may have exposed some of Bill Belichick’s team’s weaknesses. Nitrogen Sports Blog takes a look at this Week 14 game of the 2019 NFL season.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots Week 14 Game Preview

Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxboro
NFL Odds: Kansas City Chiefs(+3) vs. New England Patriots (-3)

What to know about the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4)

The Chiefs hit two birds with one stone in Week 14. By beating the Oakland Raiders, 40-9, at home last Sunday, the Chiefs didn’t just add another win to their record but also widened their lead atop the AFC West division between them and the second-place Oakland.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t have to do much for Kansas City to get the win, passing for only 175 yards (15/29) and a touchdown, while also rushing for 25 yards and a score. The defense stepped up for Kansas City, as they kept Oakland in check, forcing the Raiders to pick up three turnovers.

The Patriots have had troubles against dual-threat quarterbacks this season, losing to Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson — a trend that points to an advantage by Kansas City, which has Mahomes expected to be busy on air and on the ground in Foxboro.

What to know about the New England Patriots (10-2)

Is Tom Brady washed? Not a few have declared that following the Pats’ 28-22 road loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14. Brady still passed for 326 yards and three touchdowns with an interception, but it was clear that the Pats’ offense wasn’t performing fluidly with the future Hall of Famer under center.

That being said, it’s hard to imagine Bill Belichick starting another quarterback, a move that would raise hell in Foxboro at the very least. For now, the Patriots will look to get their defense ready in anticipation of the arrival of the reigning league MVP and the Chiefs.

The Patriots have the best scoring defense in the NFL with opponents coming up with only 12.1 points per game. They are also producing just 258.0 total yards per game, second-fewest in the league.

  • Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is starting to gain attention downfield for the Patriots. In the loss to the Texans, Meyers had a season-high 54 snaps and even out-targeted both Phillip Dorsett and Mohamed Sanu.
