What to know about the New Mexico State Aggies
New Mexico was a hapless victim last week at the hands of No. 23 Washington State Cougars, losing to the Pac-12 team, 58-7. It was a forgettable and crushing game at the same time for the Aggies, who were not able to show any semblance of fight on both ends of the field. Aggies quarterback Josh Adkins barely had anything going on offense, finishing with 221 yards (28/42) and zero touchdowns while also throwing two picks.
It’s a tough ask, but the offensive line has to be better in protecting Adkins against Alabama after allowing three sacks to the Cougars. Adkins, however, scored a rushing touchdown in the Washington State game.
He’ll have a hard time finding space to move against the Crimson Tide, so he’ll have to play conservative than risk getting picked or losing the ball. The Aggies had three turnovers in Week 1. Read on for the Crimson Tide part of this Alabama vs New Mexico State NCAAF Week 2 preview 2019.
What to know about the Alabama Crimson Tide
If you need any sort of proof of how hungry the Crimson Tide are this season after losing to the Clemson Tigers in last season’s National Championship Game, their performance in Week 1 against the Duke Blue Devils was enough. Tua Tagovailoa and company showed no mercy on the Dukies in a 42-3 victory. Tagovailoa tossed four touchdowns and finished with 336 passing yard (26/31), while the backfield delivered 145 rushing yards and two scores for the reigning SEC champions.
Also worth noting in this NCAAF Week 2 preview 2019 is the Crimson Tide banged-up defense — Christopher Allen, Ben Davis, and Ale Kaho are all questionable for Saturday — but considering the quality of the Aggies, Alabama doesn’t have much reason to lose to New Mexico State. There are some areas the Crimson Tide needs to smoothen.
For one, kicker Will Reichard missed two field-goal attempts in the Duke game. While the Tigers likely won’t need Reichard to be Adam Vinatieri in the upcoming Alabama vs New Mexico matchup, he still has to be better.
- New Mexico State is 1-8 SU in their last 8 games on the road.
