Favorites, Sleepers, and Long Shot to Win the 2019 AFL Grand Final
Circle the date on your calendars. The 2019 AFL Grand Final is just several weeks away. It’s the biggest day in Australian rules football, and as early as now, you can feel the incredible hype for that event.
While most clubs in the AFL have taken part in the game at least once, and while last year’s Grand Final matchup between West Coast Eagles and the Collingwood Football Club turned out to be a momentous event, the 2019 edition has the potential to top that.
Nitrogen Sports Blog focuses on the five teams that we feel have the best chances of reaching the prestigious AFL Grand Final.

2019 AFL Grand Final favorites
The Geelong Cats are among the AFL Grand Final favorites this 2019 to win the Grand Final. After all, they sit atop the AFL Ladder. Yes, the Cats are the main contenders to win the AFL Premiership Cup, but their dominance has seemingly declined.
They only have four losses on the season, but they’ve sustained two defeats over their past five matches. That’s not a good indicator of their future, though, they have ample time to regain their footing. The decision to award coach Chris Scott with a long-term contract at the start of the season has done wonders for the team, particularly in terms of stability.
If they can make it out of their recent slump, the Geelong Cats could go all the way.
West Coast Eagles
West Coast is the reigning AFL Grand Final winner after defeating Collingwood for the Eagles’ fourth premiership, so it makes sense why they are among the AFL Grand Final favorites this 2019. The Eagles are keeping in step with Geelong in the ladder, putting additional pressure on the Cats to win their assignments.
The Eagles started the year flat, lagging behind other teams in terms of kicks, marks, hit outs or goals by their main league rivals. However, the victory over North Melbourne appears to have lit a fire underneath the Eagles.
Their remaining fixtures have them paired up with some of the AFL’s best, including the Delaide Crows and Richmond. Can the Eagles’ squad quality see them through?
2019 AFC Grand Final sleepers
The Lions are right up there with Geelong and West Coast in the AFL ladder. Brisbane is bracing for a tough stretch, which includes a matchup against the league-leading Cats. The outcome of that contest could very well define the rest of their season for this AFL Grand Final sleepers in 2019.
The Lions’ 1632 points are the second-most in the league, just shy of the Cats’ 1651, as of this writing. Chris Fagan’s side has been smoking hot since June, as the Lions have gone 7-0 over their last seven matches.
Riding a big wave of momentum, the Lions could be a problem for the rest of the league until the end of the season.
Speaking of teams that are in top form, Richmond have yet to lose a match since Round 13 of the AFL Premiership. The Tigers will get the chance to play the Eagles and the Lions before their run of fixtures is through. Don’t ignore Richmond, which is among our picks as AFL Grand Final sleepers in 2019.
2019 AFL Grand Final long shot
The Giants are having a decent run this year and will go through an easy run of fixtures, which won’t have them going up against a top-eight side. Overall, the Giants are one of the better teams in the league, with a 122.7 percentage to go with 11 total victories.
Fatigue could also be setting in for some of the other top sides. If that’s the case, the Giants may have enough juice in their legs to take advantage of the situation and win it all.
