2019 ACC College Football Preview
The ACC is home of the new top dog in college football — the Clemson Tigers. Like Dabo Swinney’s squad, the rest of the ACC is on the upswing as well. Nearly the whole conference could be vying for tickets to the bowl season.
We can expect to see some hard-fought football in the conference this season which will make for an interesting ACC college football standings in 2019.
For the meantime, Nitrogen Sports Blog will take a good look at some of the teams to watch from the ACC.
Favorite teams on 2019 ACC college football
The Clemson Tigers ruled the ACC and the nation last season. They finished the 2018 campaign undefeated in both the regular season and in the playoffs. The ACC college football standings this 2019 is likely to see Clemson on top of it again, though, anything can happen during an entire span of a season.
Clemson Tigers (-303)
Since arriving at Death Valley, head coach Dabo Swinney has made the Clemson Tigers into a well oiled winning machine. They are once again the top team in college football. Although losing some pampers to the NFL, the Tigers have plenty of talent returning. QB Trevor Lawrence, WRs Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins, and RB Travis Etienne will overwhelm most teams.
Clemson is not only the clear front runner, they are head and shoulders above the rest of the conference. The Tigers dominated quality teams in 2018 and the same should occur this season.
Clemson went 9-6 against the spread overall in 2018. They started the season with three straight ATS losses and ended it with three consecutive covers. Keep checking out Nitrogen Sports Blog for more college football betting tips as the season progresses.
Miami Hurricanes (+800)
Head Coach Manny Diaz is coming off a successful first season for Miami. The spark is back at the U. This offseason the hurricanes added a bunch of depth from the transfer market. One of the possible question marks for the Hurricanes comes at QB. But Tate Martell could fill that void as a Sophomore transfer from Ohio State. The defense promises to be star studded.
Sleepers on the 2019 ACC college football
The Tigers blew out the Pittsburgh Panthers in the ACC Finals last year, and it seems that the Panthers are going to struggle challenging for the leadership in the Coastal division of the conference. The Panthers aside, here are some other teams in the conference that could make a surprise run to the top of the ACC college football standings in 2019.
Florida State Seminoles (+1400)
In 2018, Florida State suffered their first losing season in over 40 years. Head coach Willie Taggart and his Noles will be entering the 2019 season with a chip on their shoulders. The Seminoles have studs all over their defense.
With DT Marvin Wilson, LB Dontavious Jackson, and safety Jaiden Lars-Woodbey, they are covered in the trenches and deep down field. The Noles will also have a much easier schedule in 2019 than previous seasons.
Virginia Tech Hokies (+2000)
Justin Fuentes and the Hokies disappointed Virginia Tech nation last year. The Hokies only won six games in 2018, but they have a lot of returning upperclassmen.
On defense, Virginia Tech has five of last year’s top six tacklers back in the fold. Continuity mixed with some talent could go along way for the Virginia Tech Hokies in 2019.
And on the offensive side of the ball, Virginia Tech has four players returning who caught at least 25 passes.
Virginia Cavaliers (+2500)
The Virginia Cavaliers are looking to build on a solid 2018. Head coach Bronco Mendehall has a great offseason haul, scoring a 35th-ranked recruiting class. Quarterback Bryce Perkins will be equipped with another year of experience and a deep returning class of wide receivers.
Last year the Cavs’ offense was good enough to expect more of the same with a similar returning cast. But the continuity on defense is even more inspiring. Virginia has improved its defense every year under Bronco Mendenhall. And with eight returning starters we should expect Virigina to keep trending in the right direction.
The ACC is known more for its basketball than football. That being said, it’s an incredibly competitive league with a number of big-time programs, including the defending champion, Clemson.
The ACC college football standings in the 2019 season is going to be interesting to follow, to say the least. As we inch closer to the new college football season, it’s high time for you to check out Nitrogen Sports Blog’s sports betting guide and articles on football.
