Here’s Nitrogen Sports Blog Rodriguez vs Stephens preview of this bout.
UFC Fight Night 159 Betting odds and preview: Rodríguez vs Stephens
Where: Mexico City Arena, Mexico City
When: Saturday, September 21, 2019
Betting Odds: Yair Rodríguez (-110) Jeremy Stephens (+121)
The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America winner Rodríguez consistently earns FOTN/POTN bonuses. He also holds the record for the latest knockout in UFC history after a reverse elbow sent Jung Chan Sung to sleep with a second to go in the fifth round.
Stephens was on a three-fight streak until he met Jose Also midway through 2018, with the former champ securing a TKO in the first round. Stephens then went on to lose a close decision to the highly-rated Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC 235, scored 28-29 by all three judges.
Brian Ortega and the Korean Zombie were originally scheduled to fight at Fight Night 159, but the replacement bout is still interesting. Rodríguez’s only loss in the UFC was via a doctor’s stoppage against Frankie Edgar, so another win would see him heading towards a deserved top five fight.
Stephens is something of a gatekeeper at the moment, and he’s tied with the legendary Anderson Silva in second place for the most knockdowns in UFC history. He always struggles against the very best, but there’s no doubting his ability to mix it up.
We’re also including in this Rodriguez vs Stephens fight preview 159 the rundown of other bouts on the main card:
- Carla Esparza vs Alexa Grasso(Women’s Strawweight)
- Brandon Moreno vs Askar Askarov (Flyweight)
- Martin Bravo vs Steven Peterson (Featherweight)
There’s no belt on the line, but a bout between Rodríguez and Stephensat Fight Night 159 is sure to be worth watching. Both will be desperate for a win, and it’ll be a chance for Stephens to throw off his gatekeeper moniker. Rodríguez could be the real deal, and we’ll be closer to finding out when it’s over.
