UFC 244 Preview: Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz Welterweight Fight
There aren’t many analysts who expected either Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal would ever get another chance at a belt in the UFC.
They meet at 170, as they face off to see who deserves to be called the baddest man in the promotion.
The “BMF” belt is slightly contentious, with Dwayne Johnson likely to present the winner with a strap that will never be fought for again.
Comparisons with the WWE haven’t been helped by Dana White, who has confirmed that it’s a “one and done”, with the victor earning little more than bragging rights and the bauble.
However, the UFC has gone all out for 244, featuring five fights that are sure to get the Madison Square Garden crowd pumped up. Nitrogen Sports Blog breaks down the Masvidal vs. Diaz main event showdown and lists down the UFC 244 odds for the fight.
UFC 244 betting odds and preview: Masvidal vs Diaz
Where: Madison Square Garden, New York
When: Saturday, November 2, 2019
UFC 244 Betting Odds: Masvidal (-178) Diaz (+155)
Jorge Masvidal has had a stellar year so far, halting a two-fight skid by knocking out contender Darren Till in front of a hostile crowd in London.
He fought again three months later, and pulled off the fastest KO in UFC history when he snapped Ben Askren’s undefeated streak with a vicious flying knee in five seconds.
He’s a hot property right now, and managed to secure a fight with one of the biggest names in the game.
Nate Diaz finally returned to the Octagon after a three-year hiatus following a loss in his rematch with Conor McGregor.
Being out for so long, question marks were raised as to whether he’d be too rusty, but he easily overcame former champion Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision.
Diaz wore him down in trademark style, and the break will have further stabilized his iron chin. He’s a slight favourite, and his submission game is good enough to get it finished within the five-round limit, if they ever decide to stop swanging and banging.
Elsewhere, Derrick Lewis (21-7-1NC) and Blagoy Ivanov (18-2-1NC) meet in the co-main, Corey Anderson (12-4) is up against Johnny Walker (17-3), Kelvin Gastelum (15-4) is fighting Darren Till (17-2-1), and Wonderboy Thompson (14-4) is matched up against Vicente Luque (17-6-1).
There’s only one in this Masvidal vs. Diaz bout who’ll step out of the cage with the BMF belt, and while there’s no regular title on the line, it just feels as though there is one, considering the outsized personalities of the fighters involved.
