The co-main is also an interim title fight, with highly rated middleweight contender Israel Adesanya (16-0) facing TUF winner Kelvin Gastelum (15-3 1 NC).

It’s another event that MMA fans shouldn’t miss, and it’s the best we’ll get with injury and suspension currently keeping two champions on the sidelines.

Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier 2 Preview

Poirier and Holloway first met back in 2012, with “The Diamond” handing Holloway his first loss with a nasty double submission. Though Poirier was only 23 at the time, his opponent was 20, and in his fifth professional MMA bout.

They’ve since grown into two of the most feared fighters in the UFC. Holloway has cleaned house at featherweight since losing to Conor McGregor in 2013, amassing a streak of 13 wins over the last five years.

“Blessed” mixes intelligent striking with incredible cardio, but moving up to 155 pounds could be a step too far in the long awaited rematch.

Poirier has only lost once in his last ten fights, and his boxing prowess makes him just as dangerous as Holloway on his feet. Both men have great ground defenses and will likely look to keep it standing in the early rounds.

Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is still suspended following the aftermath of his fight with Conor McGregor, while number one contender Tony Ferguson only wants to fight for the real belt.

    Kelvin Gastelum vs Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya faces another tough test as he continues to move up the middleweight rankings.

“The Last Stylebender” outclassed a somewhat faded Anderson Silva at UFC 234, earning an interim title opportunity against Kelvin Gastelum.

Gastelum was set to fight champion Robert Whittaker in February, but “Bobby Knuckles” is currently recovering from surgery relating to a collapsed bowel. The interim belt will have to do for now, but a loss could see Gastelum dropping out of contention once Whittaker recovers.

Despite Silva’s reputation, Gastelum is likely to be a sterner test for “The Last Stylebender”.

UFC 236 promises to be a huge day for combat sports with two intriguing fighters headlining the event. Regularly check out Nitrogen Sports Blog for the latest in how to bet on sports and sports betting guide articles.
