What to know about Jermell Charlo

Jermell Charlo vs. Brian Castano betting odds for Charlo: -250

After losing his first and only professional bout to Tony Harrison in 2018, 31-year-old Jermell Charlo has since dominated boxing’s light middleweight scene.

Charlo got his comeuppance against Harrison a year after his defeat to reclaim the WBC middleweight title. And last September, the Lafayette native had an amazing eighth-round knockout victory over Jeison Rosario to claim the WBA, IBF, and The Ring titles.

With an unparalleled prowess for boxing fundamentals, Charlo deserves all the credit as the odds-on favorite to win Saturday’s showdown. “Iron Man” secured 18 victories by way of knockout and 16 via decision, whilst not having been taken down and lasting the full 12-round distance during his loss to Harrison.

What to know about Brian Castano

Jermell Charlo vs. Brian Castano betting odds for Castano: +175

Undefeated Argentinian Brian Castano could very well be the toughest opponent that Charlo will face. Save for a split-decision title defense against Erislandy Lara in 2019, the reigning WBO light-middleweight champion has a blemish-free record intact leading up to Saturday’s title bout.

Castano’s quite the knockout artist, with 12 of his 16 wins being knockouts. Earlier this February, however, “El Boxi” displayed his growth by winning the WBO light-middleweight title via unanimous decision in an arduous battle against Patrick Teixeira.

Castano is the much smaller man in his matchup against Charlo, ceding a six-inch reach advantage and a three-and-a-half-inch height advantage to the pound-for-pound champ. Nonetheless, the former South American Games gold medalist packs enough of a nasty punch for his size to warrant a decent price to win as an underdog.
