VIDEO: UMass Lowell River Hawks swish in late-game basket for backdoor cover
It’s been a good day for those who had spread bets on UMass Lowell Riverhawks against the No. 18 Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus.
Entering the game as a 23-point spread road underdogs, the River Hawks weren’t expected to give Ohio State much of a challenge. The game was virtually decided as early as the first half, which ended with the home team taking a 13-point lead into the dugout. But UMass Lowell still kept things interesting in the second half for spread bettors riding on them, and their trust in the Atlantic East squad paid off with just several ticks remaining in regulation.
Down by 23 with just under 20 seconds left, the River Hawks got the ball down the court fast, as freshman forward Connor Withers passed the leather to junior guard Obadiah Noel, who then pulled up for a 3-pointer that gave his team the win against the spread. Noel was the biggest thorn in the side of the Buckeyes in the game, leading UMass Lowell with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. In fact, Noel scored the final five points of the game, making him a hero of sorts for at least a certain group of people.
