2019 NBA Playoffs: Boston Celtics vs Milwaukee Bucks Series Preview

    Bucks vs Celtics Series Matchup

The Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks each had a walk in the park in the first round, sweeping the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons, respectively. Now, they meet again in the playoffs, a year after the Celtics, then without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, beat the Bucks in a memorable seven-game first-round series.

A lot has changed since, though. Nitrogen Sports Blog takes a deep dive into the upcoming Celtics vs Bucks series playoff rematch in the 2019 NBA Playoffs.

Clean sweeps in the first round

The Bucks and the Celtics are the only two undefeated teams left in the playoffs. Both squads were expected to progress against the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers, who simply didn’t have enough talent to give their favored rivals a run for their own money. In addition, the Celtics and the Bucks each went 4-0 ATS in the first round.

    Bucks can make a statement

This will be a repeat of last season’s first round series where the Celtics won 4-3 to break Milwaukee’s heart. This year, though, the Bucks can truly make a statement. Having already finished as the No. 1 seed in the East before winning their first playoff series in 18 years, the Bucks can now show they are the true force in the conference by taking out the Celtics.

Giannis Antetokounmpo will be crucial in this new Bucks vs Celtics series as always, averaging 26.3 points and 12 rebounds in the postseason so far. The Greek Freak also exploded for 41 points in Game 4 against the Pistons, and spoke of how “crazy” the journey has already been for the midwest team.

“It’s definitely crazy,” he said at a post-game news conference. “Where we were and where we are right now, it’s been an unbelievable journey. I think the organization has done a great job just pushing us towards the right direction and we’re just going to keep enjoying the moment.”

    Will Boston’s experience pay dividends?

The Celtics swept a Victor Oladipo-less Pacers team, but based on the regular season, you wouldn’t have expected it. It only goes to show that Boston turns things up quite a notch when it’s playoff season.

The Celtics will also take confidence from having beaten the Bucks last year as well, while Gordon Hayward’s performances are a good sign as well. Having struggled with consistency in the regular season since coming back from a devastating leg injury, Hayward was impressive off the bench in Game 4 with 20 points, and averages 12.3 points on 48.6 field goal shooting percentage in the postseason so far. Then of course, there’s the likes of Kyrie Irving and Jayson Tatum who have been impressive as well.

    Bucks vs Celtics series conclusion

This should be a tight series that goes the distance. If it does go to Game 7, the Bucks will have home-court advantage, and no other team won at home as much as them during the regular season. That could make all the difference.

Milwaukee is the favored team in this Bucks vs Celtics series, but the Bucks know better than underestimate Boston, which reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2018 sans its two biggest stars.
