2022 NBA Trade News: Cavs Get Caris LeVert Via Deal With Pacers

Caris LeVert

With only days away until the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers have struck a deal that sends Caris LeVert to the Cavs. This is a head-turning trade that could signal more player swaps in the coming hours and days before the deadline. Nitrogen Sports Blog takes a look at this move by the Cavs and examines its impact on Cleveland’s chase for an NBA Championship in the 2021-22 season.

Caris LeVert NBA Trade News 2022

LeVert gets acquired by the Cavs along with a 2022 second-round pick (via the Miami Heat). In exchange, Cleveland sends veteran Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract together with a 2022 first-round pick that is lottery-protected, a 2022 second-round pick via the Houston Rockets, and a 2027 second-round pick (Utah).

Rubio is done for the rest of the season because of an ACL tear he suffered back in December, so letting him go was an easy decision for the Cavs, who are well entrenched in the playoff picture. Cleveland is fifth in the Eastern Conference as of this writing with a 32-21 record. LeVert’s addition to Cleveland’s roster gets the team a reliable source of offense, which the team needs. The Cavs entered Sunday ranked just 23rd in the league with 106.7 points per game, but have been succeeding in large part because their defense has been arguably the best in the league this season. In fact, the Cavs are allowing just 102.4 points per game and limits opposing teams to only 50.6 effective field goal percentage.

LeVert, who is a controllable asset for at least one more season, as his current deal won’t expire until 2023, is averaging 18.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.
