What Happens To The 2020 NFL Survivor Pool During Season or Game Cancellation, Postponement?

2020 NFL Survivor Pool Rule Suspension

Updated: December 06, 2020

Nitrogen Sports is prepared for the many scenarios in case of suspension, cancellation, and postponement of the entire season or suspension, cancellation, postponement of specific games during the season.

As we mentioned in the current Rules and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding such, we will evaluate and consider the various scenarios if and when it happens and will come up with a fair decision with regards to the prizes and payouts.

Here are the general guidelines for the various scenarios and Nitrogen Sports’ resolutions for each. Please bear in mind that in the spirit of fairness and competition, we will consider all probable implications if and when that scenario happens and will try to be fair for all users involved.

Scenario #1: NFL cancels season before start of season

  • No games played after cancellation.
  • No plans to reschedule the season.

In case the entire season is cancelled with no plans to reschedule the season, Nitrogen Sports will give a full refund for all players who’ve joined the buy-in pools. All entries in the free pools will be voided and no prizes will be awarded in all free pools.

Scenario #2: NFL cancels season after at least one (1) week has been completed

  • No games played after cancellation.
  • No plans to reschedule the season.
  • At least one (1) week has been completed.
  • All teams scheduled to play must have played/finished prior to the cancellation.

In case the entire season is cancelled after at least one (1) week has been completed, with no plans to reschedule the season, Nitrogen Sports will still grade all games that have been played and that have final scores up until the suspension. The remaining players still alive in these pools will be declared the winners and will share the prize pool. Eliminated players will not receive a refund.

All teams scheduled to play before the cancellation must have played/finished their respective games. If at least one or more games during the week have been cancelled (not played/not finished), please go to Scenario #5.

For example, the NFL played Weeks 1 to 3 but cancelled the season after, all games played in Weeks 1 to 3 will be graded accordingly and the remaining players surviving after Week 3 will be declared the winners.

Scenario #3: NFL temporarily suspends season before start of season

  • No games played at the time of suspension.
  • Plans to reschedule the season.

In case the season is temporarily suspended and NFL reschedules the season and;

Scenario #3A: NFL decides for a regular 16-game/17-week season;Nitrogen Sports’ NFL Survivor Pool contests will continue following the official rescheduled regular season games. No refunds will be made.

Scenario #3B: NFL decides for a shortened season;Nitrogen Sports’ NFL Survivor Pool contests will follow the new, rescheduled, and shortened, official NFL regular season schedule. No refunds will be made and the contests will continue.For example, if the NFL officially decides on a twelve-game (12) regular season, all NFL Survivor Pool contests will also run for 12 weeks; if eight (8) game regular season, contests will also run for 8 weeks, etc.

Scenario #4: NFL temporarily suspends season after at least one (1) week has been completed

  • One or more weeks of completed play before the suspension.
  • NFL has plans to reschedule the season.
  • At least one (1) week of the season has been completed.
  • All teams scheduled to play must have played/finished prior to the cancellation.

In case the season is temporarily suspended after at least one (1) week has been completed and NFL reschedules the remainder of the season;

Scenario #4A: NFL decides for a regular 16-game/17-week season; Nitrogen Sports’ NFL Survivor Pool contests will continue following the official rescheduled regular season games. No refunds will be made.

Scenario #4B: NFL decides for a shortened season;Nitrogen Sports’ NFL Survivor Pool contests will follow the new, rescheduled and shortened, official NFL regular season schedule. No refunds will be made and the contests will continue.For example, the NFL has already played Weeks 1 to 3 and then suspended play but with a plan for return for another eight (8) games to finish the regular season. All NFL Survivor Pool contests will then run for 11 weeks (First 3 weeks + 8 weeks played).

Scenario #5: One or more games have been cancelled during the week or postponed to a future/same week

  • A number of games have been cancelled with either no plans to reschedule or be rescheduled in a future week.
  • Other games have already been played/finished with final scores.

Scenario #5A: Game/s is cancelled for the current week and moved to a FUTURE week

In case one or more games have been cancelled in the same week that other games have already been played or will be played, all entries for that week WILL ADVANCE to the following week.

So regardless of the results of the played games for that particular week, if there is a cancellation of one or more games and that game is postponed to a future week (not the same week), all entries will be advancing to the next round/following week of the contest.

Scenario #5B: Game/s is cancelled for the current week but moved to the SAME week

However, if a game is cancelled but postponed at a later date that falls in the SAME week (cutoff: before the following week’s scheduled Thursday Night Football game or whatever is the first game of the following week.), we’ll consider the game as just “delayed” and will be graded accordingly and results will stand for that week.

These scenarios are considered to be fair to all the following players:

  1. Players who may or may not have intentionally picked the cancelled game and;
  2. Players who already made their picks but will get an undue disadvantage versus those who picked the cancelled game.

Two important notes, however:

  1. Players who DID NOT make a pick for this week will be eliminated from the contest.
  2. The rule “you can only pick each team ONCE for the duration of the season” will still be applied. This means the teams, which the players have selected for this week, CANNOT be picked any more in a future week.

*All schedule and cut off is subject to change. Nitrogen Sports will explore every possible scenario and decide on the fairest resolution for all players involved.

Scenario #6: The NFL has announced that there will be a Week 18 in the 2020 NFL Season

While the NFL, via a memorandum, announced in October 2020 that extending the current season to Week 18 is among those it is considering when dealing with rescheduled games, only games played until Week 17 will be the basis of the final results of all Nitrogen Sports’ 2020 Survivor Pools.

In the event that the NFL officially extends the 2020 season beyond Week 17, Nitrogen Sports will declare all valid and verified entries that survived up until the final game of Week 17 as winners of their respective pools.

Additional Notes on Week by Week Game Schedule Changes

Whenever an official change on the schedule of at least one game is announced and released by the NFL at least a game week in advance, Nitrogen Sports will implement that schedule alteration on the concerned Nitro NFL Survivor weeks and treat that as part of the official lineup of games for that respective week per the official NFL weekly schedule.

It should be noted that Scenario #5 is contingent on a previously unplanned NFL schedule change for that week only. The Nitro NFL Survivor will still follow the official NFL season schedule, including the changes in schedule, which are announced by the league.

The rules in Scenario #5 will only trigger if there is a postponement or cancellation during a concurrent week, which is what happened in the cancelled games for Weeks 4 and 5.

For example, entering Week 6, the NFL announced the official schedule with changes for the rest of the season. Therefore, the Nitro Survivor schedule will be following the new official NFL schedule and won’t trigger Scenario #5 for the games being moved to future (or earlier) weeks as those are already set in advance.
