Preakness Stakes Sleepers That Could Surprise You This Weekend

    Preakness Stakes Odds Underdogs

It’s a competition two years older than the Kentucky Derby and with just as much history. On May 18th, the Preakness Stakes race will be run for the 144th time. With Maximum Security and Country House, the biggest challenges in this Kentucky Derby out of the Old Hilltop we may be in for some surprises.

Here are Nitrogen Sports Blog’s list of horses that may pull off an upset this coming weekend at Pimlico along with their corresponding Preakness Stakes odds this 2019.

    Alwaysmining

Not quite a long shot to win, nonetheless, Alwaysmining seems to have history riding against him (pun intended!). He is the crowd’s favorite, of course, being that he is a Maryland-bred. However, no home county horse has won here since 1983.

On the other hand, Alwaysmining, who is trained by Kelly Rubley is on a six-race winning streak. According to Preakness Stakes 2019 odds, Alwaysmining is among the underdogs, as he is priced +733 to win the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Alwaysmining could also take advantage of a surprising turn of events. Many of the most popular choices for the top spot have announced that they will turn out for this weekend.

In fact, the first four horses to cross the line at the Kentucky Derby will be absent. This makes for a highly unpredictable race, arguably one of the most exciting ones in the Triple Crown series for some years.

    Anothertwistafate

Trainer Blaine Wright has taken a radical approach to Triple Crown races, choosing to skip on the famed Kentucky Derby. That means Anothertwistafate, who did just that, should be well rested heading into the 2019 Preakness Stakes.

The final timed try out had Anothertwistafate finishing with a time of 1:14.20. And, despite not being the favorite, his recent record (finishing top two in six of the last seven races and winning the El Camino Real Derby), makes him one of the horses to consider.

    Owendale

There’s a lot to prove for owners Rupp Racing when it comes to Owendale, whose Preakness Stakes odds 2019 of +1100 to be the pride of the underdogs at Pmlico. Part of a line that includes Secretariat and Seattle Slew, who were previous Triple Crown winners, Owendale’s chances of topping the Preakness Stakes isn’t high.

But victory at the Lexington Stakes and at Keeneland make Owendale one of the surprise contenders at the Preakness Stakes. Trainer Brad Cox’s insists that the horse’s performance in training stack up to those of the best in the race. The trainer envisions developing Owendale’s abilities well into the future.

“It’s not just about next Saturday. It’s about going on and developing him as the year goes on,” Cox says.

    Win Win Win

Trainer Michael Trombetta has confirmed that Win Win Win will be taking part, despite earlier reservations about the colt’s status. Trombetta also insists that his horse should be considered among the favorites to win the 144th race at the Old Hilltop.

The oddmakers aren’t in complete agreement, but the recent past gives some credibility to the claim. The current Preakness Stakes odds 2019 for Win Win Win have hime as among the sleepers with a price of +1400 to win the race.

He did well in both the Tampa Bay Derby and at the Blue Grass at Keeneland and may turn out to be the shock of this weekend’s race.
    Bourbon War

Speaking of possible upsets, Bourbon War rounds up our list of Preakness Stakes sleepers. Bourbon War barely came up short for Derby qualification, and thus wasn’t able to get mentioned in our Kentucky Derby bitcoin betting piece.

He finished fourth in the Florida Derby. With Maximum Security and Code of Honor, who both finished ahead of him, not joining the Preakness Stakes, Bourbon War will have two main rivals out of his way. Bourbon War’s training record also shows the ability to create an offset, having recorded the third fastest time at the distance.

The historic Preakness Stakes takes place on Saturday, May 18, 2019 and there are plenty of reasons to get excited about the second leg in the Triple Crown series.

The second leg of the Triple Crown is looming. The Preakness Stakes odds this 2019 for the underdogs are out, and a short glances at those will give bettors an idea which horses are tasty picks to pull the rug from underneath the favorites.
