2019 Mayakoba Golf Classic PGA Tour Betting Preview

November 12, 2019 | Sports Mayakoba Golf Classic PGA 2019

The 2019 PGA Tour is back in Mexico, in a course that has been kind to American golfers so far. That’s if history is anything to go by, as a US-born player has won all but one since the inaugural event in 2007.

Here’s a rundown of a couple of favorites and some sleepers to watch out for in the tournament along with their respective Mayakoba Golf Classic betting odds 2019, as presented by Nitrogen Sports Blog.

2019 PGA Mayakoba Golf Classic Favorites

Where: El Camaleon Golf Club, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico
    When: November 14–17, 2019
    Total Purse: $7,200,000
The 132-man field includes Matt Kuchar, Jason Day, Abraham Ancer, Joaquin Niemann, Viktor Hovland, Billy Horschel and Lanto Griffin.

Despite missing out on a place on the US team for the upcoming Presidents Cup in Australia, Rickie Fowler was seen as an early favourite. He’s now out due to an intestinal bacterial infection he picked up after his honeymoon.

Instead, here are two of the early favourites heading into the event.

    Jason Day

Former world number one Jason Day managed to see off Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Hideki Matsuyama at the MGM Resorts The Challenge: Japan in October.

All four had a chance coming into the last hole, but Day pulled off a clutch birdie to take the trophy.

He was picked as a wildcard for the international Presidents Cup team, further enhancing his reputation as a player who can perform under pressure, and he’s always near the winning spots. Day will be competing against a talented field, but he’s got the tools to take the biggest cut of the 2019 Mayakoba Golf Classic payout breakdown.

    Matt Kuchar

There was only one shot in it when Matt Kuchar clinched the 2018 event in Mexico, and he went on to win the Sony Open in January 2019. Kuchar has constantly worked to reinvent himself over the years, and he could become the first-ever player to win the Mayakoba Classic twice.

However, he did face controversy after he paid a local caddie just $5000 after his Mayakoba success last year, rather than the traditional 5% of his winner’s cheque.

2019 PGA Mayakoba Golf Classic Sleepers

It’s always worth checking out a couple of long shots that are hitting good form heading into the event. Here’s a trio of sleepers that could yet come good.

    Abraham Ancer

Mayakoba Golf Classic betting odds 2019: +3000
Decent performances in 2019 have helped to propel Abraham Ancer into the top 100, and it’s a chance for the Mexican golfer to get a win on home soil.

While he probably wouldn’t be in the equation without his national ties, it’s a decent longshot as long as the home crowd get behind their compatriot.

    Joaquin Niemann

Mayakoba Golf Classic betting odds 2019: +2500
Chilean Joachin Niemann is the youngest international PGA Tour winner since 1923. At only 21 years old, Niemann could be going places in the future based on his potential alone.

He’s also set to become the third youngest player to compete in the Presidents Cup, after claiming his maiden PGA Tour victory at the Greenbrier Classic in September 2019.

Niemann could further enhance his reputation with a strong performance in Mexico.

    C.T Pan

Mayakoba Golf Classic betting odds 2019: +1600
C.T Pan won his first ever PGA Tour in April 2019, boosting him into the top 55. It was a career best, and he later went on to break into the top 50 after a third-place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge a month later.

The course doesn’t particularly favor power, so Pan could be worth a punt if he manages to repeat his 2019 RBC Heritage heroics.
