What to know about the Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs betting odds for Buffalo: +2

With the 47-17 rout of the New England Patriots in last week’s wild-card game, the Buffalo Bills have proven once and for all that they’re the deserving AFC East champs following three intense battles against the Patriots. Now comes the biggest hurdle in Buffalo’s path towards the team’s first Super Bowl appearance in nearly three decades: another huge playoff date against the Chiefs.

Josh Allen played out of his mind in the rubber match against New England, throwing more passing touchdowns (five) than incompletions (four) and finished with 308 passing yards on 25 attempts. Allen also dazzled with his feet with six carries for 66 rushing yards, as the Bills’ run game also came to life. Devin Singletary added 81 rushing yards and a trip to the end zone to give the third-year back six rushing TDs over his last five starts.

It goes without saying that Buffalo’s top-ranked defense did a fantastic job of keeping the Pats’ offense in check by sacking Mac Jones three times and generating two New England turnovers. However, Coupled with the 38-20 victory over KC in Week 5, the Bills now have a ton of confidence that they can finally beat the Chiefs in the postseason this time around.

What to know about the Kansas City Chiefs

Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs betting odds for Kansas City: -2

Not to be outdone by the Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs mace quick work of their first playoff opponent by doubling down on the Pittsburgh Steelers in their wild-card bout last week, 42-21. The Chiefs overcame an early 7-0 deficit by reeling off 35 unanswered points by the middle of the third quarter to deny any sort of miraculous comeback from Pittsburgh.

Patrick Mahomes played arguably his best game this season, going 30-of-39 for 404 passing yards and five TDs. On the other hand, Mahomes did throw a pick-six that gave the Steelers the early aforementioned lead but played well enough the rest of the way to carry his team to victory. Waiver-wire pickup Jerick McKinnon also impressed out of KC’s depleted backfield with 142 all-purpose yards and a receiving touchdown.

Kansas City’s defense has improved as well since the second half of the regular season. On the other hand, the team hasn’t faced a formidable offense as Buffalo’s since barely escaping with an overtime win in Week 15 against the Chargers. The Chiefs have also had the luxury of going up against middling-to-bad defenses of late. This makes their rematch against Buffalo this year all the more intriguing, as the Bills won at a point in the season where Mahomes and Co. were off to a peculiarly slow start.
