2022 NBA Play-In Tournament Odds and Preview

(8) Cleveland Cavaliers vs. (7) Brooklyn Nets

Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY
When: Tuesday, April 12, 2022, 7:00 PM ET
Odds: Cleveland Cavaliers (+8) at Brooklyn Nets (-8); over/under: 229.5
Where to Watch: TNT

The Cavaliers limped their way towards the end of the regular season, going 3-8 over their last 11 games. They did pick up a huge win over the Bucks in their regular-season finale, but the absence of standout center Jarrett Allen (finger) might spell their demise. Meanwhile, the Nets are on a roll with a four-game win streak heading into the tourney, as a healthy pairing of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving puts Brooklyn in great shape to secure the No. 7 seed in the East with a victory over Cleveland.

(8) Los Angeles Clippers vs. (7) Minnesota Timberwolves

Where: Target Center, Minneapolis, MN
When: Tuesday, April 12, 2022, 9:30 PM ET
Odds: Los Angeles Clippers (+3) at Minnesota Timberwolves (-3); over/under: 230.5
Where to Watch: TNT

Both the Clippers and the Timberwolves are respectively playing some of their best basketball at the tail-end of the regular-season campaign, which would explain why the former is just slightly favored to beat the latter. Los Angeles went 3-1 against Minnesota, but Minny won the most recent meeting in early January and all three of LA’s wins came all the way back in November. Patrick Beverley’s revenge match against the Clips only adds more drama to this upcoming feud.

(10) Charlotte Hornets vs. (9) Atlanta Hawks

Where: State Farm Arena, Atlanta, GA
When: Wednesday, April 13, 2022, 7:00 PM ET
Odds: Charlotte Hornets (+4) at Atlanta Hawks (-4); over/under: 238.5
Where to Watch: ESPN

Thanks to the likes of Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball, the Hornets are on the cusp of their first playoff appearance in six years. However, they have a mighty tall order of having to get past last season’s surprise playoff contender in the Hawks. Trae Young (28.4 PPG, 9.7 APG) is still one of the best point guards in the league, but Atlanta’s inconsistency and 2-2 record against Charlotte this season give the Hornets more than a decent fighting chance during Wednesday’s clash.

(10) San Antonio Spurs vs. (9) New Orleans Pelicans

Where: Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, LA
When: Wednesday, April 13, 2022, 9:30 PM ET
Odds: San Antonio Spurs (+5) at New Orleans Pelicans (-5); over/under: 230.0
Where to Watch: ESPN

After trading for CJ McCollum, the Pelicans have gone 13-9 and have had a top-10 defense since to give fans from the Big Easy some rare playoff aspirations. On the other hand, New Orleans went just 1-2 against the Spurs even with the addition of McCollum in the lineup. Does revered San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich have another solid game plan in Wednesday’s one-and-done showdowns? All-Star Dejounte Murray averaged 21 points and nine rebounds over those last three meetings against the Pels to give the Spurs the slight edge in this matchup.
